Many people say that they can’t go to the Alpine Champs because it is too expensive. It is true that it is not free and you might be able to go to the Alps and ski/board for less money, however the costs can be kept down and the event is very reasonable. There is advice on the event and the location which will detail how goods it can be on the ‘Tignes’ page. This page aims to give you the truth about the costs and the benefits that you get.
The costs of the event, if booked through the recommended Tour Operator Event Travel Company (ETC), are very competitive. There are a wide variety of packages available to suit all budgets and abilities and if you are in any doubt about what to do and how to go about it they are willing to discuss options with you. You can get help from a variety of sources if willing to search, from local welfare budgets and sports officers.
The basic package offered by ETC includes basic accommodation, ski pass, insurance, including racing insurance, and other local taxes. You can then build your own package to suit your needs on top of those basics.
Don’t forget we encourage wives, husbands, partners to attend, and they can take advantage of the incredibly cheap instruction and even race if they wish.
What can I claim?
If you are a Service Person then you are entitled to claim CILOR and Duty Sports Travel from your local budget. The DIN gives authorisation for this. In order to claim CILOR and Duty Sports Travel you must fulfil one of the following criteria:
1) Complete a beginners’ package, this will include 4 days of instruction and 1 race.
2) Take part in 3 days of official activity, this MUST include at least 1 race. Each race counts as 1 day of official activity.
Don’t forget – If you fulfil the criteria above you can claim the time away as duty and therefore you don’t affect your leave entitlement.
This leaves you with at least 3 days for you to do what you like on the slopes – while on duty!
